Armand Rousseau Chambertin 1988 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
Ahhhhh….Burgundy. I was reading Clive Coates book on Burgundy before drinking this at a dinner and saw he gave this wine 20/20 and immediately started drooling like a Bull Mastiff in a butchers shop. The Rousseau family acquired their holdings in Chambertin in 1920 and at present that equates to 2.15ha of the hallowed ground...

Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne 2002 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
Burgundy trainspotters will be aware that only two Domaines consist solely of Grand Cru vineyards…..Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and Bonneau du Martray. The hill of Corton is a distinct feature in Burgundy and the vineyards of Bonneau du Martray are orientated to the West & South-West….a sun trap if you like….this coupled with Jurassic soil...

Domaine Leflaive Batard Montrachet 2000 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
Nicey, nice……nervy, matchsticky white Burgundy …..one of the champions of ‘biodynamie’ Anne-Claude Leflaive began trials in biodynamics in 1988 after a meeting with soil guru Claude Bourguignon and gradually put the practises into place over a number of years(she practised on the leiux dit “Les Houlieres” first). The wines since the conversion that took place...

Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne 2001 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
Rare as rocking-horse pooh this stuff maybe 5 or 6 bottles make it into Australia and it is generally agreed that Jean-Francois Coche, is at the top of the pile when it comes to producing white Burgundy. Light straw in colour with a bewitching nose of white peach and stone fruit, marzipan, struck match, Thai...

Domaine Leroy Nuits-St-Georges ‘Aux Boudots’ 1er 1996 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
When you think of the great domaines of Burgundy, the name Leroy is in the leading pack with the ‘pelaton’ a few hundred metres back down the hill. Their wines are fantastic - biodynamic with no de-stemming, a severe triage and impeccable winemaking and oak use. Like the appellation of Volnay below...

Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru 1985 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
1985 is a renowned vintage in Burgundy. This was an auction purchase by the esteemed Shifty. Old leather and raspberry fruit, soft and delicate, sweet fruit, but in a shagged out just-run-a-marathon kind of way. Mushroom and compost, a sprinkle of tannins remain; a bit of game, a bit of stalk and stink, and a shovel-full of earth. Certainly very mature, on the tertiary side of secondary...

Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet “Morgeot” 1er cru 2003 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
This is an entry level White Burgundy from Ramonet. Lemons and glace pineapples, some pretty florals, apricots, certainly ripe but maintains some focus, a runaway horse reined in by an expert horseperson. The palate is ripe and oily, and spicy too, melons, luscious and viscous. The texture of the wine and its length are lingering; with very good persistence. Avoids the flab of many 03s – quite...

Olivier Leflaive Meursault 2004 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
A lovely nose, melons and nuts, tropical fruits with some spices. The palate is beautifully balanced, plump musky peaches and minerals, certainly showing ripe fruits but these are propped up by fine acid and oak. Doesn’t have the power of a great White Burgundy, but it an excellent Villages wine – a surprising result, and well worth the price of admission...
