Esbrown posted a review:

Last but not least was the 2005 Kamen Estate Syrah, which was a well-integrated and seamless wine that started with aromas that ranged from violets and blackberry perfume and finished with flavors of ripe dark fruit, woodsmoke, cassis and a long finish that just seemed to linger on and on. Rich and robust, but balanced with ample tannins and just enough acidity, I am curious to see how this effort will evolve over the next ten years or so. California Syrah continues to get overlooked by the "Any Pinot in a storm" crowd, but with wines such as this, maybe the pendulum will swing back around.

Rating: 3.60 / 5.00

The 2006 Shiraz “The Velvet Glove” has an awesome nose bordering on ethereal. Aromas of smoke, violets, grilled meat, game, saddle leather, blueberry and chocolate leap from the glass. This full-bodied wine is packed and dense, layered with ripe black fruits, has superb delineation, great focus, and a super-long finish. It is still tightly wound and will benefit from a decade in the cellar. This hedonistic behemoth will drink well through 2040.

Mollydooker (the Australian equivalent of “Southpaw”– both Sparky and Sarah Marquis are left-handed) is the label of the renowned winemaking team of Sparky and Sarah Marquis. This is their second vintage following the schism with The Grateful Palate and the end of their involvement in the hugely successful Marquis Philips project. Total case production is 72,000, down from the 120,000 cases produced under the Marquis Philips label. They have also set up their own importing company in the United States.

The wine maker Jim Knight loves Jazz or so I am guessing... The aromas jump out of the glass ready to send you into a state of a total animalistic orgasmic state from which it is so sad to return. Black ripe earth sucks you in as you do the same to it. You become one in this berry festival that is now your mouth....Drink up young warriors for this will be the day you fight!

Producer's notes:

The vineyards, selected from low yielding vines, come from the areas of Carcassonne and the Minervois. Minervois has a mild Mediterranean climate, rolling uplands among broad plateaus, and soil composed of limestone, clay, and schist, streaked with granite and chalk. Considered the best of the region.

The grapes were picked at optimum ripeness then cold macerated prior to alcoholic fermentation in order to extract colour and flavour. The wine was macerated on skin for four weeks then pressed and malo-lactic fermentation was carried out in oak barrels. The wine was racked then aged for six months.

Deep red colour with purple fringe. Intense aromas of vanilla, coffee, red fruit, spice and herbs. Rich palate with soft tannins, vanilla and red fruit flavours, with excellent length.

To go with all meat and cheese dishes or even to be served after a meal with chocolate.
